Symphonic Band - Jack Wilds
Intermediate Band - Ricky Flores
Dr. Flores’s journey in education is a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and
purpose. A proud graduate of Texas Lutheran University, he earned dual Bachelor of Arts
degrees in Music Education and Sociology in 1995, laying the foundation for a life devoted
to learning and leading. He continued his academic ascent with a Master’s degree in
Educational Leadership from Schreiner University, followed by a Superintendent
Certification from Texas A&M University–San Antonio. In 2022, he achieved a lifelong
dream by earning his Doctorate of Education Degree from Texas Tech University. This
school year marks his 30th year in public education, a remarkable milestone in a career
driven by a deep commitment to students and communities.
From 1996 to 2011, Dr. Flores inspired excellence as a Director of Bands. Under his
leadership, his ensembles consistently achieved the highest honors at UIL contests and
festivals statewide. His bands advanced to the Texas Music Educators Association State
Honor Band Finals and were recognized by the National Wind Band Honors—proof that
with vision and hard work, even the loftiest goals are within reach.
Dr. Flores’s dedication has earned him accolades at every level. In 2004, he was named
H-E-B’s Texas Teacher of the Year, and in 2006, he was included in the National Honor Roll
for America’s Outstanding Teachers. He has been recognized by Madison Who’s Who
Among Business Professionals, awarded the Trinity Prize for Excellence in Teaching, and
honored by Texas Lutheran University with the Outstanding Young Graduate Award for
his exceptional leadership and influence in the field of education.
Today, Dr. Flores proudly serves as high school principal, where he continues to lead with
heart, hope, and high expectations. His vision extends beyond his current role—he aspires
to someday serve as superintendent, where he can impact even more lives through
equitable, student-centered leadership.
Outside the school walls, Dr. Flores finds his greatest joy when surrounded by his family.
He and his wife, Connie, have been married for 26 years and are the proud parents of four
amazing young adults in Rebecca, Elijah, Isaiah, and Ricky Jr., each of whom, of course,
joined the band (by strong encouragement), though they had full freedom to choose their
instruments!
Even with a demanding schedule, Dr. Flores never misses an opportunity to return to the
podium. To him, standing in front of a band is a reminder of why he started this journey:
to ignite potential, to uplift others, and to make a difference through music and education.
Dr. Flores is living the dream, and after three decades of service, he continues to dream
bigger, lead stronger, and inspire those around him to do the same.
